Eligibility & Integrity

Rule01

Rules and Scope

These event rules and the published competition format for each division govern TPBL Leg 2.
Standard doubles pickleball rules apply unless specifically modified by an official TPBL Leg 2 rule.
Players are responsible for reading the current rules before competing.

Rule02

Category-Specific Eligibility

BDR is required only for categories whose published eligibility rules expressly require it.
Categories marked BDR not required still require organizer eligibility approval.
Every application may be referred for clarification or manual review.

Rule03

Division Placement

Both partners must be approved for the division they enter.
Only divisions and eligibility standards published through an official TPBL Leg 2 channel are valid.
Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles divisions, where announced, follow their respective published eligibility requirements.
Final division approval belongs to TPBL tournament management.

Rule04

Anti-Sandbagging and Rating Integrity

Anti-sandbagging will be strictly enforced.
Management may review verified match history, rating reliability, recent performance, playing experience, and unusual match patterns.
A review flag is not an automatic accusation; the complete available record will be evaluated.
TPBL may reclassify, reject, or disqualify an entry proven to involve material misrepresentation or rating manipulation.
Eligibility concerns must be reported privately to the tournament desk—not through confrontation or public accusations.

Registration & Match Readiness

Rule05

Registration and Player Eligibility

Only officially registered and confirmed players may participate.
Registration information must match the player’s official identity and, where required, BDR profile.
Players must complete the required waiver and event media notice.
Parent or guardian consent is required for minors, where applicable.

Rule06

Team Roster and Substitutions

A team consists only of its two officially declared partners.
A player may not represent more than one team in the same division.
Any partner change before the team’s first match requires management approval.
After the first match, substitution is NOT PERMITTED.

Rule07

Equipment and Attire

There are no paddle-brand restrictions.
Paddles must be safe, undamaged, and free from prohibited alterations.
Tournament officials may reject unsafe or noncompliant equipment.
The official event ball will be used.
Proper sports attire and non-marking court shoes are required.

Rule08

Check-In, On Deck, and Rolling Schedule

Teams must check in by the deadline announced for their division.
On-deck teams must remain courtside and ready.
Published match times are estimates and may move because of tournament flow.
A match may start early only after an official call and when both teams are present and ready.
The default clock begins only after the official match call.

Match Operations

Rule09

Default and Forfeit

Both approved players must be present and ready to play.
A team that is not ready within five minutes after the official match call may be declared in default.
The official default score will follow the published scoring format for that round.
An unplayed default may affect tournament standings but will not be recorded as a played BDR match.
Repeated or deliberate delays may result in forfeiture or further penalties.

Rule10

Warm-Up and Match Start

Court warm-up is limited to three minutes.
The referee or tournament official will conduct the coin toss.
The coin-toss winner chooses to serve, receive, or select a starting side.
The opposing team receives the remaining choice.

Rule11

Scoring and Service Order

TPBL Leg 2 uses side-out scoring.
Only the serving team may score.
Both partners serve before a side-out, except during the first service turn of each game, when only one partner serves.
The target score, cap, and best-of format for every round will be stated in the official division competition sheet.
Where a cap applies, teams must win by two until the cap is reached.

Rule12

Timeouts and Injury

Each team receives one 60-second timeout per match.
Each player may receive one injury timeout of up to five minutes per match, subject to official approval.
Treatment must not create an unreasonable delay.
A player who cannot safely resume play may be retired from the match.
Deliberate delay or misuse of a timeout may result in a penalty.

Fair Play & Officiating

Rule13

Honest Line Calls

Pickleball is an honesty-call sport.
When no line official is assigned, players are responsible for calls on their own side.
A ball should be called out only when it is clearly out.
Any reasonable doubt must be resolved in favor of the opponent.
Spectators, phones, and livestream footage may not be used to overturn a live line call unless official video review has been announced for that match.

Rule14

Player Conduct and Penalties

Threats, intimidation, abusive language, directed profanity, and disrespect are prohibited.
Players may not confront referees, opponents, staff, or spectators.
Paddle throwing, deliberate delay, and other unsportsmanlike conduct are prohibited.
Penalties may include a warning, point penalty, game or match forfeiture, disqualification, or removal from the venue.
Serious misconduct may receive an immediate penalty without a prior warning.

Rule15

Referee Authority

The assigned referee or tournament official controls scoring, service order, timeouts, and match procedure.
Live judgment calls are final.
Players may calmly request an immediate clarification of the score or applicable rule.
Arguing, intimidation, or delaying play after a ruling is prohibited.

Rule16

Protests and Eligibility Concerns

Judgment calls, including live line calls, cannot be protested.
A protest may concern rule application, eligibility, or an incorrectly recorded result.
The team representative must submit the protest to the tournament desk within 15 minutes after the match.
The protest must identify the disputed rule or recorded information.
Tournament management will review the available official record and issue the final decision.

Results, Format & Tournament Control

Rule17

Score Confirmation and Official Results

The referee or assigned official will record the final result.
A representative from each team must review the score before leaving the court.
Corrections require an official scorekeeping or recording basis.
Only finalized and verified results will count toward standings, awards, and BDR reporting.
Awards will be released only after final confirmation of the division results.

Rule18

Standings and Tie-Breakers

Group standings are ranked first by match wins.
Win percentage will be used if teams complete an unequal number of matches because of an officially shortened schedule.
A two-team tie will first be decided by head-to-head result.
A tie involving three or more teams will first use a mini-table covering matches among the tied teams.
Remaining ties will be decided by point differential among the tied teams, Total Points For among the tied teams, overall point differential, and then fewest forfeits or defaults.
If a tie affecting playoff qualification remains, a one-game playoff will be conducted: race to 11, cap at 13.

Rule19

Division Format and Advancement

Each division will have its own published competition sheet.
The sheet will state the number of teams, group or round-robin structure, qualifying positions, seeding method, playoff pairings, byes, round scoring, semifinals, finals, and any third-place match.
The official bracket must be published before that division begins.
The format will not be changed after competition starts except when required by safety, force majeure, or an unavoidable event disruption.

Rule20

Event Operations, Media, and Final Authority

Tournament management may adjust court assignments, match order, and start times because of delays, weather, technical issues, safety concerns, or tournament flow.
All material changes must be communicated through an official tournament channel.
TPBL Leg 2 may be photographed, recorded, and livestreamed in accordance with the event registration notice.
Competition rules and advancement criteria will not be changed after a division begins except when unavoidable and applied consistently.
Matters not expressly covered by these rules will be decided by tournament management based on fairness, player safety, competitive integrity, and sportsmanship.

Exact team counts, groups, qualifying positions, brackets, and round scoring will be published in the official competition sheet for each division. Approved category entry ranges publish only with official registration; individual player BDR values and rating evidence remain private.
