TPBL Participant Waiver

Assumption of Risk, Limited Release, Emergency Medical Authorization and Privacy Acknowledgment

Version: 1.0

Applies to: The participant, tournament, event, division and venue identified on the applicable registration page and electronic acceptance record.

For this waiver, “Organizer” means the person or legal entity identified as the organizer on the applicable event registration page and operating the event under BackDoor League and/or the Tuguegarao Pickleball League (TPBL).

Important information before you accept

  • Pickleball is a physical sport. Falls, collisions, overexertion and other injuries may happen even when reasonable safety measures are followed.
  • Participation is voluntary. You confirm that you are fit to play and agree to follow event, venue, safety and sportsmanship rules.
  • Before accepting, review the event name, division, BDR entry limit, BDR lock deadline and whether the results will affect BDR.
  • Every adult participant must accept this waiver individually. A captain cannot accept for another adult partner.
  • A parent or legal guardian must complete the guardian acceptance process for a participant under 18.
  • This waiver applies only to the fullest extent permitted by Philippine law. It does not excuse fraud, bad faith, willful misconduct, gross negligence, illegal acts or any responsibility that cannot legally be waived.

Participant Agreement

1. Voluntary Participation and Known Risks

I voluntarily register for and participate in the tournament, open play, league, clinic or other activity identified in my registration record, referred to in this waiver as the “Event.”

I understand that pickleball, warm-ups, movement around the venue and participation in Event activities involve inherent and ordinary risks. These may include:

  • Slips, trips and falls;
  • Collisions with players, equipment or structures;
  • Being struck by a ball, paddle or other object;
  • Muscle, joint, bone, head or other physical injury;
  • Overexertion, dehydration or heat-related illness;
  • Aggravation of an existing medical condition;
  • Equipment failure; and
  • Acts, errors or mistakes of other participants.

I understand that serious injury, permanent disability or death, although uncommon, may occur.

2. My Condition and Responsibilities

I confirm that I am physically and medically able to participate, or that I have obtained appropriate medical advice before participating.

I will not participate while impaired, contagious, seriously injured or experiencing symptoms that may make participation unsafe. I will stop playing, seek assistance and notify an Event official if I feel unwell, become injured or observe an unsafe condition.

I agree to:

  • Follow tournament, venue and officiating rules;
  • Follow reasonable safety instructions from authorized Event personnel;
  • Use suitable footwear, paddles and equipment;
  • Behave respectfully toward players, officials, staff, volunteers and spectators; and
  • Provide accurate registration and eligibility information.

The Organizer may delay, remove or disqualify a participant when reasonably necessary for safety, eligibility, fair competition or compliance with Event rules.

3. Emergency Medical Care

If I am injured or become ill and cannot make or communicate a timely decision, I authorize the Organizer and its designated personnel to provide reasonable first aid and arrange emergency assessment, transportation or treatment.

I understand that the Organizer is not a medical provider and does not guarantee the availability, quality or outcome of medical care.

Unless otherwise required by law or covered by applicable insurance, I remain responsible for medical, emergency transportation and treatment expenses relating to my participation.

4. Assumption of Risk and Limited Release

I knowingly and voluntarily accept the inherent and ordinary risks associated with the Event.

To the fullest extent permitted by Philippine law, I release and discharge the Organizer, BackDoor League, TPBL, BackDoor Rating (BDR), the venue owner or operator, Event sponsors, sanctioned officials, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, agents and representatives, collectively referred to as the “Released Parties,” from claims for personal injury, death or property loss arising from inherent Event risks or ordinary negligence connected with the Event.

Nothing in this waiver excuses or limits responsibility for fraud, bad faith, willful misconduct, gross negligence, illegal acts or any right or responsibility that cannot lawfully be waived or limited.

No part of this waiver applies to the extent that it would be contrary to Philippine law, public order or public policy.

5. Personal Property and Insurance

I am responsible for my paddle, equipment, bags, mobile devices, valuables and other personal property.

The Organizer does not guarantee that personal accident, medical or property insurance covers me. I am responsible for obtaining any insurance coverage I consider appropriate.

6. Eligibility, Scores and BackDoor Rating

I understand that the registration page will identify the applicable division, BDR entry limit, rating lock deadline and whether Event results will affect BDR.

Verified player history, eligibility rules and Organizer review may result in:

  • Correction of my registration information;
  • Movement to another division;
  • Placement on a waitlist;
  • Rejection of my registration; or
  • Disqualification when Event eligibility rules are not satisfied.

Official scores and results may be recorded. When an Event is clearly identified as BDR-rated, those results may be submitted and used according to the published BDR rules.

This waiver does not authorize an arbitrary change to an official BDR and does not replace the published Event eligibility, division or rating rules.

7. Privacy Acknowledgment

I understand that the Organizer may process information reasonably necessary to:

  • Administer the Event;
  • Verify my identity and eligibility;
  • Match or connect me with an existing BDR or TPBL player profile;
  • Prevent duplicate player profiles;
  • Communicate registration, schedule, queue and safety information;
  • Review payment when applicable;
  • Respond to emergencies;
  • Maintain waiver and acceptance records;
  • Publish permitted rosters, schedules, scores and results; and
  • Maintain BDR records when applicable.

Private information, including date of birth, contact details, medical information and emergency details, must be restricted to authorized persons and collected only when reasonably necessary.

The applicable privacy notice, participant rights and Organizer contact method are available through the official Privacy and Contact links on BackDoorLeague.com.

Personal information will be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for Event administration, safety, legal obligations, dispute resolution and legitimate recordkeeping.

8. Individual and Electronic Acceptance

I confirm that I am the participant identified in the electronic acceptance record, or the participant’s parent or legal guardian when the participant is under 18.

I confirm that I had the opportunity to open, read and understand this exact waiver version before accepting it.

My verified account, one-time email or QR claim link, affirmative acceptance, typed legal name when required and recorded acceptance time are intended to identify me and confirm my approval of this electronic document.

A team captain may submit registration information for a team but may not accept this waiver for another adult participant.

Every adult participant must individually accept the current waiver before check-in or play.

9. Participants Under 18

If the participant is under 18, the participant’s parent or legal guardian must personally complete the guardian acceptance process.

The parent or legal guardian confirms that they:

  • Have the legal authority to provide permission for the minor;
  • Give permission for the minor to participate;
  • Acknowledge the risks described in this waiver;
  • Accept this agreement on the minor’s behalf to the extent permitted by law; and
  • Authorize reasonable emergency care as described above.

A minor’s registration remains Waiver Pending until the required guardian acceptance has been completed.

10. Photography and Event Coverage

Photo and video permission is separate from this required waiver.

When the Organizer requests permission to use identifiable photos, video or audio for promotional materials, the participant may accept or decline through a separate optional choice.

Declining optional promotional permission will not prevent registration, eligibility, check-in or participation. Incidental recording may still occur in public competition areas, spectator areas or during live Event coverage.

11. General Terms

This agreement is governed by Philippine law.

If any part of this agreement is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

This waiver, together with the Event rules, published eligibility requirements, BDR terms when applicable and the privacy notice identified in the acceptance record, contains the participant’s agreement regarding these subjects.

No oral statement changes this agreement unless the change is officially recorded in writing by the Organizer.

Electronic Acceptance

By completing the required acceptance step on the registration page, I confirm that:

  • I am the participant identified in the registration, I am at least 18 years old and I am accepting only for myself; or I am the parent or legal guardian authorized to accept for the identified minor participant.

  • I reviewed the Event and division information shown with my registration.
  • I understand the risks described above.
  • I voluntarily accept this waiver, limited release, emergency medical authorization and privacy acknowledgment.
  • I understand that my acceptance will be recorded electronically and connected to my participant profile and Event registration.

After reading this page, return to the registration form and complete the required acceptance step.
